Vista wins award for Volgermeerpolder

The Volgermeerpolder in Waterland, Amsterdam North, has won the 2011 ‘Gouden Klinker’ award for best realised plan for public space in Amsterdam. The ‘Gouden Klinker’ is awarded biennially by the ORlab, the Public Space Platform for four Amsterdam municipal services (DRO, DIVV, OGA and IBA). The award was presented by Dirk de Jager, from the municipality of Amstedam West. The jury consisted of Eric Luiten (landscape architect), Ronald Hooft (designer and columnist at ‘Het Parool’ newspaper) and Bob Witman (‘de Volkskrant’ newspaper). The jury selected the winner from a shortlist of three nominees. They chose Volgermeerpolder because of the "addition of high-quality public space where there was previously inaccessible land."

Haarlemmermeer council approves Masterplan Park21

The municipal council of Haarlemmermeer on June 16 approved the Masterplan Park21 as a framework for the further development of this 1000ha large park. Vista designed the Master Plan in close cooperation with the project team from the municipality. The decision by the council and executive board is a brave one. At the time of the completion of the draft master plan in the autumn of 2010, it was known the new government had put a line through existing financial resources earmarked for the project. The concept of Park21 is originally based on a publicly funded green framework as a basis for private initiatives. The implementation strategy will be, now more than originally planned, focused on exploring the possibilities for private funding. The board has indicated its decision to prioritize Park21 over other green and recreation projects in the municipality. The council intends to evaluate the process at the end 2011.

Wind energy Goeree-Overflakkee

Vista has been commissioned by the Province of South Holland to explore the possibilities for wind turbines on the islands of Goeree-Overflakkee. The peripheral zone of the island is named in the Provincial Spatial Development Vision (2010) as one of the two focus areas for new wind turbines. In the memorandum Wervelender (2011) a quantitative goal of 200-300MW of installed capacity in 2020 is proposed for the peripheral zone of Goeree-Overflakkee. Vista will test various design options based on landscape and environmental criteria. The study is to be carried out in close consultation with the Inter-Municipal Cooperation Organ Goeree-Overflakkee (ISGO) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.
